Session synopsis: 
The WHO’s Action Plan on Oral Health: A Collaborative Response from Oral Health Professionals’ Education Associations.

If you are planning to attend IADR in Barcelona, why not join us at an Oral Health Professionals’ education side event on Wednesday 25th June 2025 at 11:00 am at the University of Barcelona City Centre Campus. Co-organised by ADEA and ADEE, on behalf of an informal Oral Health Professional Education Associations Collaborative, the event will share the ongoing response of the associations’ in relation to the WHO action plan.

The session will first share key achievements to-date including a summary advocacy animation for use by academic institutions, a peer reviewed paper, and summary information sheets on the priority areas identified by the associations to enable and empower academic intuitions engage at a national level.

The session’s core work will evolve the advancement of two key areas that will be the focus of the associations work over the coming 12 months.

  • Inter Professional Education limitless potential and bounded realities

While the focus of the discussions is at regional association level and how we can assist institutions, we invite all interested academics to join us to shape this discussion and its directions. Registration is free and capped at 100 persons. Online access will be available for regional representatives unable to travle.

Brian O’Connell is currently Dean of Health Sciences at Trinity College, Dublin, with a special interest biomedical education. He co-leads the oral health component of the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA), in addition to research on treatment outcomes and the use of new technology in oral health care. Professor O’Connell is a core member of the European Platform for Better Oral Health, and President-Elect of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR).

Corrado Paganelli DDS, MD is currently chair of the Board of IFDEA (International Federation of Dental Educators and Associations) and FEHDD (Forum of European Heads and Deans of Dental Schools), Former President CECDO (Council of European Chief Dental Officers) and ADEE (Association for Dental Education in Europe). Dean of dental school / clinic, and previously hygienist school and orthodontic program, Erasmus coordinator for medical school at University of Brescia – Italy. President-elect of IADR Nutrition group. He also chairs the dental expert panel (Expamed) for the EU Commission of the Regulation (EU) 2017/745 on Medical Devices.

Marsha A. Pyle

Senior Scholar in Residence
American Dental Education Association

Dr. Marsha Pyle joined the American Dental Education Association as Senior Scholar in Residence in 2020, Senior Chief Knowledge, Engagement and Development and serves as President of the ADEAGies Foundation. She is liaison to the ADEA Council of Deans after retiring from the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Dentistry. She served the UMKC School of Dentistry as dean for 11 years. rior to that, she was associate dean for academic affairs at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Pyle, a general dentist, completed a General Practice Residency and a 2-year fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry in Cleveland, OH. She led dental curriculum innovation projects that have been nationally recognized through an American Dental Education Association Gies Award in 2009.  Using educational theory and creative practical applications, Dr. Pyle has helped transform pedagogical approaches in dental education, nationally.  Her national leadership also includes serving as chair of the (ADEA) annual session planning committee, chair of the curriculum project for older adults and the Macy curriculum projects, as well as chair of the Joint Commission on National Dental Board Examinations of the American Dental Association and served as a Commissioner of the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Dr. Pyle completed a term as advisor of the ADEA Leadership Institute and chair of the ADEA Council of Deans Administrative Board.
