Aims and Objectives

The aims and objectives of the Special Care Dentistry Special Interest Group are:

  • To provide an international forum to develop learning and teaching in Special Care Dentistry within dental teams
  • To promote the inclusion of Special Care Dentistry in undergraduate courses for all members of the dental team
  • To promote and support development  of Special Care Dentistry in postgraduate courses for all members of the dental team
  • To share educational knowledge and best practice in learning and teaching in Special Care Dentistry and host resources for common use
  • To develop educational research to provide an evidence base for best practice in learning and scholarship in Special Care Dentistry

Brief description and summary of outcome: 

Szeged

The final meeting of the Special Care Dentistry Special Intersst Group was held at ADEE 2015. 

The closing report of the group identifying outcomes achivened and possible areas for future development can be downloaded bellow.

ADEE wishes to acknowledge the dedictaion and work of the SIG leaders Dr. Shelagh Thompson (UK) and Dr. Alison Dougal (IE) who have ensured that suitable outcomes were generated and shared by the SIG sinces its inception in 2012.

The SIG in Special Care Dentistry has met the initial predetermined objectives and expected outcomes and delivered these within the initial agreed timeframe of 3 years.

Riga

The Riga meeting of the SIG focused on:

  • Update of SIG work (S. Thompson)
  • Role of Medical Humanities on cultivation of empathy within dental students (M. Borromeo)
  • DentCPD and collaboration with SIG in Lifelong Learning (J. Cowpe)

The group work focused on:

  • CPD for dental teams using Undergraduate Curriculum and Postgraduate Curriculum guidance
  • What examples of CPD cover the subject of Special Care Dentistry?
  • The role of the SIG in SCD being involved in the CPD project for managing Medically Compromised Patients
